I've lived by the Yangtze at Chaotianmen for more than ten years — long enough to know which window catches the morning light and which room frames the river best. When friends ask me where to stay in Chongqing for the river view, I don't send them a list. I send them here, to the tip of the peninsula where I happen to run a small homestay.
Why Chaotianmen, and not somewhere louder
Chongqing's old town sits on a peninsula where the Yangtze and Jialing rivers meet, and Chaotianmen is the very tip of it. Stand at our window and you're looking across the Yangtze to Nanshan — not the postcard skyline, but the real one: green hills, the sightseeing boats of the Two Rivers cruise drifting by, and the international cruise ships docked at the pier right below our building. Chaotianmen is where the Three Gorges voyage begins, so the big white ships often wait there at night. It's the calmest, widest stretch of river in the old town, and the old lanes are a walk away.
What you actually see from the window
I'd rather tell you the truth than sell you a postcard. Our rooms are in three adjacent buildings. Most are river-view: they look across the Yangtze to Nanshan and the old lanes of Xiahaoli (下浩里) below it, with a few variations:
- View A — the Yangtze, Nanshan and Xiahaoli, with the Dongshuimen Bridge in frame;
- View B — the same, but instead of the bridge you catch Raffles City (来福士) on the skyline;
- View C — the fullest frame: the Yangtze, Nanshan, Xiahaoli, the Dongshuimen Bridge, the Yangtze cable car and the Huguang Guild Hall.
We also have city-view rooms (no river), mostly on higher floors — where Chongqing shows its mountain-city character: tiered buildings climbing the hills, the layered skyline you only get in a city built into the mountains.

- Couples wanting a quiet, design-led base after a long flight;

The practical bits
Our place is Nancy's Home — on Trip.com / Ctrip listed as "Nancy's 岚兮江景美宿 (解放碑洪崖洞店)" — at 18 Changbin Road, Chaotianmen, Yuzhong District, Chongqing (庆隆海客瀛洲东一门). Thirty-seven rooms, sixty-four beds, from a 15 m² studio to a 200 m² suite. Most of the paintings hanging on our walls are my own work — wabi-sabi pieces I painted. That's the look you see in the photos, not a stylist's.
